Hampshire Hospitals Palliative Care Service

The Hampshire Hospitals Palliative Care Service (HHPCS) provides specialist palliative care to patients and their families in Basingstoke and Winchester hospitals and to the community of North and Mid Hampshire. The team work closely with St. Michael’s Hospice to facilitate the delivery of patient care.

HHPCS can be involved at any stage during an illness when symptoms are complex, but regular support is offered when needs are changing quickly and towards the end of life. Bereavement support is also offered for families involved in their care. HHPCS provides symptom control and psychological support for complex problems, whilst supporting healthcare professionals delivering palliative care, through education and training.

 HHPCS are involved in:

•    Complex symptom management

•    Psychological care for patients and families

•    Professional advice and support

•    Ethical decision-making

•    Community liaison and support

•    Any progressive, life-threatening disease

By offering individually tailored care, patients have access to a trained team of specialist palliative care professionals. HHCPS provide a single point of referral, fast tracking access to their services, and seeing urgent referrals within 24 hours and non-urgent referrals within one week.
