Volunteer

Our volunteers are crucial to almost every aspect of what we do. Without people generously giving their time and skills, we would be unable to continue delivering vital  care and support to our patients and their families. There are so many ways you can get involved as a St. Michael’s Hospice volunteer, whether it is at the Hospice, in the community or in one of our shops.

Volunteering with our retail team

We are currently recruiting for the following volunteer roles across our retail operation:

  • Retail volunteers are needed in our following shops: Alton, Brighton Hill, Chineham, Four Marks, Hook, Kempshott, Overton, South Ham, Tadley, Wote street.
  • Donation centre volunteers
  • eBay volunteers
  • Volunteer van drivers

Please view further information about our current retail volunteer vacancies.

If you would like to join our fantastic team of retail volunteers please complete the application form below.

Volunteering at the Hospice

At our Hospice in Basingstoke, we offer a number of patient-facing roles that provide assistance to patients, families and staff throughout our inpatient unit.

Please note, due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, certain Hospice based volunteers (other than those specifically advertised on this page) are currently stood down. We are still accepting new applications, with all volunteer roles listed on our application form. Once we have received your application form, our Voluntary Services Manager will get in touch with you directly. Once guidelines confirm that it safe to do so, volunteering will resume.

Volunteering in the community

Throughout the year we have a calendar of fundraising events for which we often need volunteers to lend a hand. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing situation with Covid-19 several of our Hospice events have been postponed. We will update this page, confirming dates for our 2021 fundraising events in due course.

After being furloughed, I needed something to get me out of bed in the morning. I wanted to be useful, rather than sitting at home watching Netflix. A friend mentioned volunteering here, and it has been a great way for me to get back to doing something productive. The team have been really welcoming and are happy to give me pointers whenever I have a question.
