Volunteer

Our volunteers are crucial to almost every aspect of what we do. Without people generously giving their time and skills, we would be unable to continue delivering vital  care and support to our patients and their families. There are so many ways you can get involved as a St. Michael’s Hospice volunteer, whether it is at the Hospice, in the community or in one of our shops.

After being furloughed, I needed something to get me out of bed in the morning. I wanted to be useful, rather than sitting at home watching Netflix. A friend mentioned volunteering here, and it has been a great way for me to get back to doing something productive. The team have been really welcoming and are happy to give me pointers whenever I have a question.

Volunteering with our retail team

We are currently recruiting for the following volunteer roles across our retail operation: donation centre assistants, eBay assistants and van drivers. If you would like to join our fantastic team of retail volunteers please complete the application form below.

Please note, due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, certain retail based volunteers are currently stood down. We are still accepting new applications for the roles listed above. Volunteering at the Hospice

At our Hospice in Basingstoke, we offer a number of patient-facing roles that provide assistance to patients, families and staff throughout our inpatient unit.

We are still accepting new applications, with all volunteer roles listed on our application form. Volunteering in the community

Throughout the year we have a calendar of fundraising events for which we often need volunteers to lend a hand. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing situation with Covid-19 several of our Hospice events have been postponed. We will update this page, confirming dates for our 2021 fundraising events in due course.

Volunteer Stories

Clive - eBay Volunteer

September 2020

Clive Hancock has been volunteering for St. Michael’s Hospice for six years and joined the St. Michael’s eBay team in March 2020.

Clive said, “As a keen photographer and a bit of a perfectionist, this role makes the best use of my skills. One of my favourite things is seeing the items I have photographed reaching a good price online. I enjoy the friendly, relaxed atmosphere here and being able to work at my own pace. The boss even makes me a cup of tea from time to time!”
