This February, we’re keeping it short and sweet — but full of meaningful connections and incredible funds raised by our local community.
From big cheque presentations, crazy wigs and hats, Valentine’s Day dances, and kilo sale support, February reminds us that it’s not just about the quantity of events — it’s about the compassion our supporters have to raise funds in aid of us.
Three Moments That Made February Special
Lighting Up the Season with Keith’s Christmas Baubles Cheque Presentation
- This month we were delighted to receive a cheque presentation from Keith’s Christmas Baubles, who raised funds through his much-loved Christmas lights display. Thanks to the support of visitors and our local community, he presented £12,020.00 in support of the Hospice.

Big Hair, Big Hearts: Mad Hair Day Across Local Schools
- Our colourful Mad Hair Day fundraiser saw four schools take part so far this year, with even more schools planning to get involved in the coming months. With students and staff embracing wild and funky hairstyles for a good cause, the initiative has raised £988.99 so far.
Mad Hair Day brought a wonderful burst of colour and creativity to the Federation of Winklebury Infant and Junior Schools, and the children absolutely loved expressing themselves through their wild and imaginative hairstyles. A huge thank you to the parents and carers who clearly spent a lot of time, spraying, twisting and teasing hair into masterpieces that defied gravity and, in some cases, logic. The final pieces were amazing! Beyond the fun, the event opened up thoughtful conversations about St. Michael’s Hospice, the vital care it provides, and why supporting our community matters. As Thrive schools, we place great importance on helping children understand and manage their emotions, and events like this give them a meaningful way to connect empathy with action. We’re very proud of how our pupils embraced the day with such enthusiasm and compassion.

Music, Food and Fundraising: Musical Bingo & Supper Night
- On 19 February, the Conservative Club organised a Musical Bingo and Supper Event in aid of our hospice. As we are thankful to be their Charity of the Year, we were thrilled to see our local community come together for a wonderful evening.
Recently we’ve had a fabulous evening of “musical Bingo”, food, raffle and lots of fun. The tickets were a sellout within days. In the evening there was lots of singing and “I remember that song or who played that”….. but luckily Gary, the entertainer could fill us in so we were able to cross off our bingo cards if we weren’t sure. It went so well that we arranging another by request of our members and hoping to have time for a Motown and musical show categories. And we have all our members and guests who helped us to raise £1,544.00 on the night for the Hospice.

Corporate Support
- L Titcombe Funeral Directors held a Valentine’s Dance and raffle in aid of our hospice, raising £515 with the event completely sold out!
For my part, I organised the event and sponsored the costs of the hall, food, decorations and a raffle prize. We also were very fortunate to receive other wonderful prizes from local village businesses. Having had much contact with you all at St. Michael’s Hospice and, realising what a wonderful, caring and very professional role you play at such an important time in a families life, we think you are truly amazing and wanted to do something to help raise funds.

- Storck UK & Phillips Law helped set up the February Kilo Sale. We are grateful for the time and effort they put in, with our monthly Kilo Sales being an important source of funding for the Hospice.
- In just a month’s time, our serene Woodland Walk & Run will be taking place, supported by our sponsor Sparta Health, who have kindly agreed to back this special event.
