Odiham Cottage Hospital

Odiham Cottage Hospital Charitable Trust kindly supports St. Michael’s Hospice Community Palliative Care Team in the Odiham and Hartley Wintney area. The ever busy service is available 7 days a week, 9am - 9pm to patients in the community.

St. Michael's Hospice is extremely grateful for the support given from the board trustees at Odiham Cottage Hospital. By working in partnership it allows both charities to efficiently deliver the very best care in the communities in which they both serve.

Odiham Cottage Hospital funds a volunteer-led befriending service that is managed by St. Michael's Hospice, operating three days a week, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays that provides social interaction and companionship. The service aims to enhance the quality of life for adults suffering with a life-limiting illness and/or palliative care needs, i.e. the most vulnerable groups within the West Hart community.

This is done by offering clients the opportunity to reduce social isolation and to form a trusting relationship with volunteer befrienders, which in turn may enable the client to:

•    acquire a greater degree of self-confidence and emotional growth

•    enhance their capacity to make use of their own resources, as well those resources available to them within their community, i.e. other voluntary organisations and statutory agencies

•    cultivate and maintain relationships with others while re-connecting with their local community

Since 1999 the hospital has been owned by a charitable trust which ensures that all services are provided free of charge or at a subsidised cost to local people, with a range of health and social care day services for local residents, both at Odiham Cottage Hospital and in the community. These include NHS community nursing services, outpatient medical clinics, social day care services for older people and palliative care services.

The community generously support the hospital’s activities, together with funds raised from its shops in Odiham, Old Basing and Hartley Wintney.
