Please find below a list of our current volunteer vacancies.

Retail Volunteer

Available shifts: various shifts available either weekly/ fortnightly (mornings, afternoons, weekdays, and weekends) during store opening hours.

Location: St. Michael’s Hospice shops across North Hampshire. Please visit our store finder to view all store locations.

Key responsibilities of the role:
  • Sorting/pricing donations
  • Serving customers on the till
  • Putting out stock on the shop floor
  • Keeping the shop clean and tidy
  • Greeting and helping our customers

Who can volunteer:

If you have a few hours to spare to support our Hospice, we would love to hear from you. This includes:

  • Students from 14 years undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh award or similar
  • Work experience students

Maintenance Volunteer

We are looking a volunteer to join our Maintenance team at the Hospice for 2 hours per day Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

You will have the ability to work independently, knowledge of DIY & using petrol machinery in the garden.

Responsibilities:

  • Cutting hedges/lawns, weeding, clearing car park areas, feeding pond fish
  • Painting & Decorating
  • Putting up pictures & notice boards
  • Some routine health & Safety checks

Online Sales Volunteer - office-based role

Available shifts: 4 hours on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We can be flexible to other hours.

Location: St. Michael’s Hospice Furniture Store (upstairs office), Unit 7-8 Onslow Close, Wade Road, Basingstoke, Hampshire RG24 8QL.

We are looking for people with online sales experience or have an interest in online selling to join our friendly team. You will have the ability to work independently and will be computer literate. Training on how to use the eBay platform will be provided.

Students and Duke of Edinburgh Awards participants are welcome to apply

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Researching products for listing on our eBay platform.
  • Listing products with detailed descriptions on the eBay platform.
  • Packaging sold products.

Donation Centre Volunteer

Available shifts: various shifts available during opening hours (9am – 12pm, Monday – Friday)

Location: St. Michael’s Hospice Donation Centre, Unit 7-8 Onslow Close, Wade Road, Basingstoke, Hampshire.

You’ll be working as part of a team in a friendly atmosphere, helping to sort donated items.

In-Patient Unit Volunteer - Weekend

The In-Patient Unit volunteer provides non-clinical support to the Ward staff by welcoming visitors, and performing various practical tasks.

What’s involved?

  • Welcoming patients, families and visitors to the Hospice.
  • Serving drinks and snacks to patients.
  • Being part of the In-Patient Ward team.

You’ll be:

  • Compassionate, empathetic and kind.
  • Aware of boundaries and how to respect them.
  • Be able to follow policies and procedures.

We’ll provide

  • Practical training with an experienced volunteer.
  • Support from the In-Patient team.
  • Volunteering Handbook and Role Profile
  • Team meetings

Hours:

  • Saturday morning – 2 hours
  • Saturday afternoon 2 hours
  • Sunday morning 2 hours
  • Sunday afternoon 2 hours

Weekly, bi-weekly –  we’re flexible, so please get in touch.

A DBS check will be required for this role.

Complementary Therapy Volunteer

Skills:

To volunteer once a week – (hours will depend on the needs of the service)

Level 3 qualification is required

Hold a professional Indemnity Insurance & registered with an approved professional association.

 

Responsibilities:

Carry out treatments on Hospice patients, carers, out-patients, relatives & bereaved families

Complete treatment records

Complete mandatory training

Attend in-house training.

A DBS check will be required for this role.
