Tai Chi

As part of our living well service, we offer an 8 week Tai Chi programme.

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art that combines slow and controlled movements with deep breathing and mindfulness. It focuses on posture, balance, and fluid motion, and is an accessible way to exercise for people with different levels of ability.

Tai Chi can improve strength and stamina, aiming to helping patients with:

  • Balance and coordination – helping with stability in everyday activities.
  • Muscle strength and joint mobility – increasing confidence in walking and reducing stiffness.
  • Breathing and posture – it can be particularly beneficial for patients with chest conditions, to improve lung function.
  • Relaxation – it aims to reduce stress, anxiety and improve sleep.
  • Social connection – enabling you to learn something new within a supportive environment.

The sessions are held in the Turner Centre, at St. Michael’s Hospice. These will be formatted in a group setting on Wednesday mornings, 10:30am to 11:30am.

It is encouraged that you attend each session, however it is not essential.

You will be contacted by a member of the St. Michael’s Hospice Therapy team prior to attending the programme, this is to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
