This Sunday, 23 April 2023, is the London Marathon and we have four amazing runners taking part in aid of our patients and their families. Running a marathon takes months of training and preparation, and we’re so thankful these incredible people have chosen to use their places to raise funds for our Hospice.

In anticipation for the exciting event, we caught up with our Team SMH runners to find out why they chose to support us, here are their inspirational reasons:

Kathryn:

The Hospice at Home team lifted us up every day when we were caring for my mum during her last days. Every step I run in the marathon will raise funds to help them to do this for other families at their time of need. It’s my way to thank them and at the same time honour my wonderful mum’s memory.’

Alex:

‘I will be running in memory of my wife’s (Emily) mum, Suzanna, who was diagnosed with a stage 4 brain tumour in 2016. St. Michael’s Hospice could not have done more in terms of support to her and her family and offered incredible and compassionate end of life care which was tailored to her own wishes. Suzanna Parker sadly passed away in October 2019 at home.’

Jack:

‘St. Michael’s Hospice provided excellent care and support to my Grandparents during their illness. It is a charity that we hold close to our hearts and they do a brilliant job.’

Katrina:

‘The nurses at St. Michael’s Hospice supported my family when my Grandma was on end of life care. I want them to have the opportunity to provide the same care and support for other families that need it.’
