Read our December fundraising spotlight! The festive holidays were packed with heart warming activities from our fundraisers, to raise incredible funds with their creative Christmas ideas. They generously donated their time and efforts to support our Hospice! Below are just some of the amazing fundraisers that took place during December – thank you and well done to everyone who raised vital funds for our patients!
Trust Support
We thank the charitable trusts and foundations’ generosity and support for our Hospice in December. We are proud to have received support from five charitable organizations that assisted us with our essential core expenses and several projects such as the Volunteer Community Ambassador Programme and the Digitisation of our Voluntary Management Services. We would like to express our sincere gratitude towards the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Brighter Life Community Programme, Miller Homes Community Fund, The Misselbrook Trust, and The Saulgrove Trust. Their contributions have been invaluable towards our project, and we are incredibly fortunate to have their support.
STI (Electronics Solutions)
Every year, STI (Electronics Solutions) provide Christmas presents for our patients to open on Christmas day. Paul Hutton, Registered Manager and Living Well Service Lead, collected the presents at the beginning of December from their HQ in Hook. The gifts are generously donated by their staff, collected under their company Christmas tree throughout November, just for our patients to spread Christmas cheer across the ward on Christmas day.
Portsmouth Arms Christmas Meal
A local pub in Basingstoke, the Portsmouth Arms, generously donated a table on Christmas day for a family at our Hospice to enjoy Christmas dinner together. The family tucked into a three course meal together and enjoyed all the festivities that the pub offered. Thank you!

Happy Wrappy
This year we were back in Festival Place with our very popular Happy Wrappy! Happy Wrappy is where you can get your Christmas presents wrapped by our wonderful volunteers for a donation to the Hospice. It was very popular with people who were doing there Christmas shopping, we wrapped hundreds of presents and met some wonderful people who had stories to share of how the Hospice has supported their families when they needed us most. In 2023 we raised an incredible £3,225.24! We can’t wait to see you all in December for Happy Wrappy 2024!
Basingstoke Choral Society’s Christmas Carols in The Malls
In December the wonderful Basingstoke Coral Society very kindly chose to support us with their Christmas Carols in The Malls, where festive shoppers were treated to a medley of traditional Christmas Carols as they were Christmas shopping! They wrapped up warm and sung beautifully, raising a wonderful £333.01 for the Hospice!
Overton Choral Society’s Christmas Carol Concert
The Overton Choral Society kindly chose St. Michael’s Hospice to support again for their annual Christmas Carol Concert. It was a wonderfully festive evening, with the Overton Choral Society singing a beautiful medley of classic Christmas Carols, and their retiring collection raised an incredible £505 for the Hospice!
Robert May’s Secondary School Christmas Fundraising
The students of Castle House at Robert May’s School have chosen St. Michael’s Hospice to support throughout the school year by raising funds and awareness for the Hospice. They held their first fundraiser before Christmas, selling sweets to raise funds, and they’re taking on the Accumulator Challenge to help maximise their fundraising efforts!
Mr. Flatherty’s A Christmas Carol
Mr. Flatherty’s Private Theatricals preformed A Christmas Carol in December. They are a very talented group, beautifully bringing to life this traditional Christmas themed play and really showing the talented people we have in Basingstoke. The show was incredibly popular, raising a wonderful £646.03 from their raffle and retiring collection!
Voices for Hospice’s Concert
In September the wonderful Voice for Hospices committee put on another performance to raise funds for all eight of the Hampshire Hospices. Supporters came from across the country to join the choir, only rehearsing the concert once through together before performing for friends, family and the general public in the evening. They performed a The Armed Man, A Mass for Peace, accompanied by the Voices for Hospices Sinfonia. In December we received our portion of the funds raised, which was an amazing £3,300! Thank you so much for all the hard work of the Voices for Hospices committee!
Reindeer Run for Schools
In December we had two local schools take part in our new Reindeer Run for Schools initiative, where schools can host their own Reindeer Run for the Hospice! The students were incredibly excited to take part, getting their best festive outfits on and encouraging their friends and family to sponsor them to take part. Both schools said it was a great success and the students had a lot of fun, let’s see how many schools we can get to take part this year!
Christmas at the Rec – Old Basing & Lychpit Parish Council
The Old Basing & Lychpit Parish Council hosted their first ever Christmas at the Rec event on the 22 December, which was a lovely evening for local residents to come together to celebrate the festivities with Christmas songs, carols and some delicious refreshments. They kindly chose to support St. Michael’s Hospice with this great event, and attendees raised a wonderful £729.74 for the Hospice!
