Hospice at Home Service
St. Michael's Hospice at Home is provided by Hospice to the community of North Hampshire which takes the skills, ethos and practical nursing care associated with the Hospice into the home environment.
When faced with a life-limiting illness, many people prefer to be cared for in their own homes with everything that is familiar around them. St. Michael’s Hospice at Home Nurses and Healthcare assistants work with patients to ensure they receive the necessary emotional, psychological and practical nursing care to die at home, if that is their wish. The Hospice at Home service is provided free of charge to support patients and those people caring for them.
Hospice at Home not only supports patients but also their carers and family members as it provides an opportunity for them to have a break or a little time to do something for themselves safe in the knowledge that their loved one is being cared for.
A husband of a St. Michael's Hospice at Home patient said “It has been brilliant to be able to go back down the gym and, up to a point, start rebuilding my life. It’s good to know that my wife is in safe hands whilst I am out and that she is in the care of someone I trust. The nurses who come are so sociable and helpful, it’s very comforting that my wife is being looked after by someone professional and compassionate to both of our needs.”
Back in 2001 St. Michael's Hospice took over the Marie Curie service for North Hampshire for provision of palliative care in patient’s homes across the whole of North Hampshire. Hospice at Home has evolved from the Community Nursing Service that has been provided by St. Michael's Hospice over the last 8 years.
