St. Michael’s Hospice Rated Outstanding by Care Quality Commission
St. Michael’s Hospice is delighted to announce it has been rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) — the highest possible rating awarded by the independent regulator of health and social care services in England.
Your local hospice, based in Basingstoke, provides free palliative, end-of-life and bereavement services across North Hampshire, received the rating following a comprehensive inspection by a team of CQC assessors. Inspectors evaluated whether the organisation is safe, caring, effective, responsive and well-led.
In its report, the CQC praised the Hospice for delivering care in an environment that people said “felt more like a home than a hospital”. Inspectors found that patients and their families felt safe, informed and deeply cared for by a team that consistently prioritised kindness, compassion and dignity.
The full inspection report is available on the CQC website.
Hospice care is about supporting people and families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, and I am immensely proud that the quality of care delivered within our hospice has been recognised at the very highest level.
This achievement belongs to every member of the hospice team — from our clinical staff and support services to our fundraisers, retail teams, volunteers and the wider community whose ongoing support makes our work possible.
Most importantly, this rating provides reassurance to our community that outstanding specialist palliative and end-of-life care is available locally, delivered with dignity, compassion and excellence.
