What is Make a Will?

Make a Will is an opportunity for you to create or update an existing Will while supporting hospice care in North Hampshire.

Thanks to the generosity of several local solicitors who have waived their usual fees for preparing simple single or joint Wills, you can donate the fee to St. Michael’s Hospice instead.

Whether you’re making a Will for the first time or updating an existing one, this initiative provides peace of mind while helping to fund the essential services of the hospice.

In previous years, we held Make a Will over one specific month. This year, however, each solicitor has chosen a different month to offer this service.

Appointments are limited, so we encourage you to contact the participating solicitors early to take advantage of this offer.

More information about Make a Will

Each Will is carefully drafted by a qualified solicitor, requiring a significant amount of time, expertise, and attention to detail. In recognition of the work involved, solicitors kindly request a minimum donation of £200 for a single Will and £350 for a pair of mirror (joint) Wills.

These contributions help support the continued provision of this valuable service while ensuring you receive high-quality legal advice and documentation. While these are the suggested minimum donations, we encourage you to give more if you are able, as all proceeds go toward supporting St. Michael’s.

A simple Will is a legal document that gives instruction as to what you would like to happen when you die. In a simple Will your assets are given to the intended recipients when you die or when they reach the required age as set out in your Will. A Will would not be classed as a simple Will if it involves discretionary or life interest trusts.

If you are unsure on your requirements, please call your chosen solicitor to check with them in advance of booking an appointment to write your Will.

If we can help further, please do get in touch with us on 01256 848848.

We care for people in our community living with a life-limiting illness or facing the end of life and also support their carers, family and friends. You may already support us because you know someone who has received care from St. Michael’s Hospice, or you may have experienced it while caring for a loved one and understand the vital role hospice care plays in the lives of all involved. Your support will help us ensure we can always be there for those who need us. A donation of £200 for a Single Will could help fund 10 hours of nursing care in our inpatient unit. A donation of £350 for a Joint Will could help fund 3 bereavement evenings for families experiencing the grief of losing a loved one.

Our support can begin from the moment someone is diagnosed with a life‐limiting illness, through to palliative and then ultimately end‐of-life care.  It also extends to families and caregivers, helping them manage the challenges of caring for a loved one during this time and supporting them through their bereavement journey. This is only made possible due to the continued support and generous donations from our community. St. Michael’s is a charity, and all our services are provided free of charge. We receive less than 22% funding from the government, which means around 78p of every £1 we spend on care is funded by donations and fundraising. Without this we wouldn’t be able to be here for people who need us. Of course, we understand that when making a Will the needs of your family and loved ones will always come first. However, once you have looked after those closest to you, leaving a gift to St. Michael’s will help us to be there for future generations.
