Odiham Cottage Hospital & St. Michael’s Hospice

Volunteer-led Befriending Service

By commissioning an early intervention service that provides social interaction and companionship, Odiham Cottage Hospital has agreed to fund a volunteer-led befriending service, operating four days a week, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Working in partnership with St. Michael’s Hospice, with referrals via the Rural East Integrated Care Team and local GP surgeries, the service aims to enhance the quality of life for adults suffering with a life-limiting illness and/or palliative care needs, i.e. the most vulnerable groups within the West Hart community.

This is done by offering clients the opportunity to reduce social isolation and to form a trusting relationship with volunteer befrienders, which in turn may enable the client to:

•    acquire a greater degree of self-confidence and emotional growth

•    enhance their capacity to make use of their own resources, as well those resources available to them within their community, i.e. other voluntary organisations and statutory agencies

•    cultivate and maintain relationships with others while re-connecting with their local community

We are now actively recruiting Volunteer Befrienders. For more information, please call Maria Bryant on 01256 393609, or download the letter and application form
