Quality is at the heart of everything we do here at St. Michael’s Hospice and continuously improving the quality of care that is provided to our patients and their families is a deeply-established and widely-shared commitment across the organisation.

The CQC is the independent watchdog for healthcare in England. They assess and report on the quality and safety of services provided by the NHS and the independent healthcare sector, and work to improve services for patients and the public. To view our latest report, please click the link below

Quality and Governance Team

Demonstrating that the Hospice delivers high quality care is one of our main priorities for St. Michael’s Hospice’s Quality and Governance Team.

The team is made up of Chris Bagan, Quality and Governance Manager; and Paula Wilson, Data Administrator.

Chris’s role is to:

  • Use audits, benchmarking and patient and family feedback to gain assurance that St. Michael’s continues to provide quality care for patients and their families.
  • Identify areas for quality improvement which will further improve the experience of those who use our services. One example of improvements made during 2018 included the installation of Juliet balconies in patient bedrooms to enhance the patient experience on the IPU.
  • Ensure that St. Michael’s remains compliant with the regulations set out by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Our last CQC inspection was carried out in 2016 and rated our services as “Good”. Our objective as a team is to ensure those Good standards of care are being continually provided but at the same time strive for a rating of “Outstanding”.

Paula’s role is to:

  • Demonstrate the delivery of high-quality care by using accurate and timely data collection, detailed analysis and presentation in various forms.
  • Portray how the Hospice are performing through collecting and analysing data, which in turn will help us to maintain our high-quality standards.
