Trustees

St. Michael’s Hospice is governed by a Board of Trustees who are all volunteers. They meet each quarter to review performance and make strategic decisions about the future direction of the Hospice. The Board of Trustees is made up of individuals with various skills and expertise and is led by the Chairman David Salisbury. A list of the Trustees can be found below.

Chairman

David spent over 40 years in investment management in a variety of professional and management roles.

Dan Bowden

Honorary Treasurer

Dan is a qualified accountant with an MBA, he is currently Head of financial planning and analysis at The AA and is hoping to use that finance and strategy experience to support the charity. In the past he has worked at Naomi house in finance. Dan lives in Basingstoke and is the chair of the local hockey club.

Dr Charlotte Hutchings

Charlotte qualified as a doctor in 1993 and has always had a special interest in palliative care. Charlotte is part of St. Michael’s rota of weekend doctors.

Charlotte qualified as a doctor in 1993 and has been a GP partner at Whitewater Health in Hartley Wintney since 2000. As well as being a GP, Charlotte is also a GP trainer, teaching prospective GPs and medical students, and has worked with Wessex Macmillan since 2012, and is the End of Life Clinical Lead and Deputy Clinical Chair for the North Hampshire CCG. Charlotte has always had a special interest in palliative care and is part of St. Michael’s rota of weekend doctors.

Jane Lyons MBE

Jane represents the Friends of St. Michael’s Hospice on the Trustee board.

The Friends have been prominent fundraisers for the Hospice since before it was opened and Jane has been involved with the Hospice for over 20 years. She has been Chair of the Friends since 2010. In 2020, Jane was honoured with an MBE for services to charitable fundraising during Covid-19 in the Queen’s birthday honours list. Jane is also a committee member of the NSPCC locally and a Governor of Elstree School.

Tory Simpson

Tory brings marketing and technology expertise to the board.

This expertise helps the leadership team to plan and the Income Generation Committee to strategize. Tory runs a digital marketing agency for technology businesses based in Bramley and has lived in Basingstoke for almost 30 years. As our youngest Trustee, Tory is a proud advocate for diversity and inclusion and is part of many DEI initiatives with other local and global businesses promoting women and millennials in leadership. Tory has a personal connection to the Hospice through her grandmother and she wanted to give back to the Hospice as much as she could!

Sylvia Goddard

Sylvia Goddard is a recently retired HR Consultant with Charity Board experience at Relate, and has sound knowledge of finance and business functions.

Sylvia is well connected in the Basingstoke business community and has worked in the town for many years.

Charlotte Jones

Charlotte Jones’ practice has for a number of years been almost exclusively in clinical negligence work.

She is instructed on a regular basis on behalf of a large number of Claimants and Defendant health authorities, trusts, medical defence organisations and the NHSLA. She regularly represents families or clinicians at inquests and is happy to undertake cases on a CFA basis. Charlotte's knowledge and experience is a vital addition to the Hospice Clinical Governance Committee.

Dr Caroline O'Keeffe

Currently Medical Director for North Hampshire Urgent Care (NHUC), formally HantsDoc, Caroline is also Covid Lead for the North Hampshire CCG and spearheaded the Home Oximetry Programme during the pandemic.

She is an experienced GP of over 17 years, Clinical Leader, GP Trainer and Wilderness/Remote Medic. She graduated from Bristol University in 1998 and has operated as a freelance Army Medic, practiced across the world with Médecins Sans Frontières as well as being a partner at various local GP Practices since 2013.

Andy Taylor

Andy has 20 years experience working in retail and hopes to bring his knowledge, expertise and passion to help the Hospice’s retail income stream.

Andy’s lived in Basingstoke for 5 years and looks forward to giving back to the community through the Hospice, helping local families when they need it most.
