Physiotherapy
The role of the physiotherapist is to work closely with other members of the hospice team with patients in the In-Patient Unit, Day Care and Out-Patient Clinics.
The physiotherapist visits patients to assess their individual needs and advise on any treatment required. Read more....
Occupational Therapy
The Occupational Therapist (OT) works closely with patients and families to plan a patient’s safe discharge home and ensure that they can manage at home with daily tasks such as getting a shower/bath and preparing a meal. For a patient planning to return home can be a daunting prospect, particularly if they are feeling less well, the OT together with other members of the team are available to support patients in doing this. Complementary Therapies
At St. Michael’s Hospice we have a team of fully qualified and experienced therapists who offer Complementary Therapy. These therapies can be used safely alongside conventional medical and nursing treatments and help with relaxation, reduce anxiety and give a sense of physical and emotional well being.

The Complementary Therapy Service also offers a range of therapies to bereaved families identified and referred by the Bereavement team. A clinic is run on Wednesday evenings by St. Michael's Volunteer therapists. For more information please contact Elene Burjan or Steve Cox on 01256 844744.
Therapeutic Clinic
The Therapeutic Clinic has been developed to meet the needs of patients whose treatment is going from curative to palliative care in order to help them adjust psychologically, socially and physically to the changes in their lifestyle. The Therapeutic Clinic Team consists of a Complementary Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and Senior Nurse. Following acceptance to the Clinic patients are assessed and a 6 week programme is agreed, this programme runs Wednesdays from 12 to 4pm with a maximum of 6 patients. During the Clinic each patient has access to one-on-one sessions with all members of the team, peer support and advice on strategies for symptom management.
Patients can be referred to the clinic via a healthcare professional.
