Alton Victorian Cricket supports St. Michael’s
14 February 2010
The Alton Victorian Charity Cricket Match, this year to be held on Sunday June 13th, is one of the highlights of the Alton summer. Nine teams in Victorian dress compete in a limited overs competition using traditional bats and ball and wicket. The cricket match, played on The Butts, raises money for a local charity and this year the chosen charity is St. Michael’s Hospice.
‘’St. Michael’s Hospice is delighted to be associated with Alton Victorian Cricket” said Sarah Evans the Community Fundraiser for St. Michael’s. “At the Hospice we rely heavily on the Community of North Hampshire to support us and this is a great community event which will provide entertainment for the whole family, whilst helping to raise valuable funds for St. Michael’s Hospice”
Opened in 1992, St. Michael's Hospice provides care for patients across North Hampshire with a life-limiting illness, the goal of care is to help patients achieve the best possible quality of life. The majority of St. Michael’s patients have cancer but those with other chronic life-limiting illnesses are also cared for by the Hospice.
All Hospice services are provided to patients across North Hampshire free of charge and include:
- In-Patient care for symptom control (the main reason for referral), rehabilitation, respite and terminal care.
- Day Care patients living at home; offering peer support, a range of activities and access to professional advice and support.
- St. Michael's Hospice at Home Service provides practical and supportive nursing care in people's homes.
- Out-Patient services, which include the Therapeutic Clinic, Complementary Therapy and Medical Consultation
Traditionally the Mayor of Alton bowls the first ball and the 9 teams then compete in a league based play off and then a final between the two highest scoring teams. Last year’s winners, The Butts Bowlers, will be defending the title.
The day will provide entertainment for the whole family with the cricket match starting at 10.30, refreshments, a beer tent, traditional stalls and a variety of activities for children of all ages. Raffle tickets will be on sale before the event and on the day with a first prize of 500 Guineas.
All proceeds will be donated to the Hospice.
